28th June 2011
On a beautiful summer's evening we celebrated two events.
The presentation of a "blue plaque", and Father Andrew's Priestly Silver Jubilee.
The presentation of the "blue plaque".
The plaque was presented by the Chairman of the Blackpool Civic Trust, and was unveiled by Bishop Nicholas. The church has been awarded this status in recognition of its historical importance in Blackpool, particularly with regard to the Actors' Chapel.
The unveiling ceremony was witnessed by the congregation, clergy, choir and servers.
Father Andrew's Silver Jubilee
We celebrated Father Andrew's Priestly Silver Jubilee with a Pontifical High Mass, where the President and Preacher was Bishop Nicholas.
They waited patiently!
The church was full of civic dignitaries and guests who came to celebrate Father Andrew's celebration.
After the mass we enjoyed a party.
A year later .........
Members of the family of St Stephen's gave donations towards a gift of a special silver jubilee vestment for Father Andrew. Unfortunately illness and bereavement delayed it being made, but in June 2012 Father Andrew took delivery and was at last able to wear it. It is designed specifically to pick up some of the design features of St Stephen's and to reflect our seaside setting.
