I was speaking with someone last week about how he was trying to get an appointment with his optician. 14th April was suggested. When my friend got off the phone and went to write it on their calendar, he realised that 14th is Good Friday.

Thinking it must be a mistake, he rang straight back. “Oh is it?” He was asked, “Oh well we are open just the same, all the shops are.”

The first Sunday in Advent has, for several years, been the occasion of our visit to the cathedral to join in the Advent Carol Service. However, this year Philip and Cantantes Domino decided to bite the bullet and bring to St Stephen's it's very own Advent Carol Service.

Our team of servers from Saint Stephen’s headed the long procession of pilgrims who came from Blackburn, Manchester and Chester Dioceses to join Bishop Philip on the journey to the Shrine.

Bishop Philip's first confirmation at Saint Stephen's must be one he will never forget. Cantantes Domino made sure of that as they made their way past him into church and nearly knocked him for six with the sheer volume of joyous singing.
