Muslim Funeral & Islamic Burial Rites

Islamic funeral rites emphasize prompt burial. The deceased is washed and shrouded by close family members of the same sex, followed by the funeral prayer (Salat al-Janazah). Burial is swift, with the body placed in the grave on its right side facing Mecca. Cremation is strictly prohibited as Muslims believe in bodily resurrection. Mourning is observed for three days, except for the widow who mourns for four months and ten days.
