Services and Worship

Worship lies at the heart of the Christian life. It is through finding God in worship that we are transformed as His people.

At St Stephens our services are centred around the Mass (or Holy Communion) where we participate in the saving grace of Our Lord's death on the cross.

Jesus said to them, ‘Very truly, I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.

John 6: 53

With effect from Thursday 5 November all public worship will be cancelled due to lockdown restrictions.

During this time the church will be open daily for private prayer. The daily offices and Mass will continue to be said privately.

Restart of Public Worship

Public worship will start again from 6 December. Numbers at each service will be limited to ensure social distancing so you will need to book attendance at Sunday Masses
If you are attending a service at St Stephens then you are required to wear a face-covering whilst in church by law.

To ensure that we can safely manage attendance you will need to book a place for the Masses. This can be done online below or by telephoning:
•    07801 240531 - Tuesdays 10am to 2pm
•    01253 353894 - Thursdays 9.30am to 2.30pm
•    01253 280892 - Fridays 5.30pm to 7pm

Thursday - 9.30am Mass
Friday - 12 noon Mass
You will not need to book a place at midweek service. You will need to complete the attendance register with your contact details so we comply with NHS Test and Trace requirements.

Unfortunately there will be changes to our normal Christmas worship this year and we will not be able to have our annual Crib Service on Christmas Eve. Full details of all Christmas services are available on on Christmas Services page.
Please make sure you abide by social distancing requirements at all times, wear a face-covering and sanatise your hands on arrival and follow and requests from the priest/churchwardens or sidespersons at all times.

Under the current tier 3 regulations you must not attend with, or socialise with anyone outside your household or support bubble whilst you are in church.
