Services and Worship
Worship lies at the heart of the Christian life. It is through finding God in worship that we are transformed as His people.
At St Stephens our services are centred around the Mass (or Holy Communion) where we participate in the saving grace of Our Lord's death on the cross.
Jesus said to them, ‘Very truly, I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.
John 6: 53
We are happy to announce that public worship will resume at St Stephens from Monday 8 March 2021.
As numbers at each service are strictly limited to ensure social distancing you will need to book attendance at Mass in advance on our website or by telephone:

Wednesday 6.30pm Exposition and private prayer.7.30pm Mass
Thursday - 9.30am Mass
Friday - 12noon Mass
You will not need to book a place at midweek service. You will need to complete the attendance register with your contact details so we comply with NHS Test and Trace requirements.
At our service we shall be subject to continued strict adherence to the rules and guidelines. In particular it is vitally important that we maintain social distancing, properly worn masks, and above all we must not congregate either before or after any mass, including weekdays.
On arrival there must be no pausing for chat in the narthex and certainly no gathering outside after mass.
Morning and Evening Prayer
The daily offices of Morning and Evening Prayer are said in church as follows:
(Please note these do sometimes vary)
Sunday: Office of Readings said privately; Morning Prayer. 8.30am, Evening Prayer 6pm
Monday: Office of Readings early (varies), Angelus and Morning Prayer 9am, Angelus and Evening Prayer 6pm
Tuesday: Fr Andrew’s Diocesan full working day – so it varies
Wednesday: Office of Readings early (varies), Angelus and Morning Prayer 9am, Angelus and Evening Prayer 16.30pm (Usually before the Blessed Sacrament as part of Holy Hour)
Thursday: Office of Readings early (varies), Angelus and Morning Prayer 9am, Evening Prayer varies (according to Diocesan commitments)
Friday: Office of Readings early (varies), Angelus and Morning Prayer 9am, Evening Prayer said privately
Saturday: Offices said privately (Fr Andrew’s rest day)
The offices, (except Sunday Evening Prayer) are said from the Breviary of the Western Church. Though we have a few books available, most of us use the electronic version on iPad or smart phone, using the very user-friendly ‘Universalis’ App. This is available for both Apple and Android formats.
There is a either a very small (about £1) charge per month or a one off payment (about £10) for this - but this is much cheaper then the three volumes in printed form. Please ask if you would like more information
