A Very Special Summer Fayre

This year our theme for the Fayre was, of course, the 90th Birthday of Her Majesty the Queen and it was apt that June 19th, her official birthday was chosen as the day of the Fayre.

Sadly the clerk of the weather was in no mood for fun and just as the last table had been placed on the lawn the rains descended. Everyone scuttled for shelter but it became clear by 11.30 that we would have to retreat to drier accommodation.

Jo at the BBQ

The BBQ braved the elements but the rest of us chickened out. Some of the stalls were relocated to the Church and the rest to the small hall.

At 2pm Our Queen for the day, Evie, was crowned in the church. She was accompanied by Princesses Jasmine and Abby who were handed their staffs of office by Father Andrew. Queen Evie then pronounced the Fayre open and she and her attendants were given the freedom of the stalls. As you can imagine this was greeted by squeals of delight and the royal party began a grand tour of the stalls.

Queen for the Day Evie

Despite the rain our loyal family arrived to support us, together with quite a number of locals who were very interested in the church as well as in patronising the stalls. It was a great chance to welcome people and to show them round. By the end of the afternoon the Lucky Dip was empty, the scones, cakes and tea were all consumed and the bottles had disappeared from the Tombola. The Red, White and Blue Tombola had drawn crowds and the books, toys and CDs had diminished in quantity.

Father Andrew took charge of the draws for the various Raffles which included a wonderful Union Flag cake made and given by Lindsay and happy winners departed clutching their booty.

Profound thanks go to the hardworking crew who carried tables hither and thither (Twice) and to all who contributed to the success of the Fayre. We made over £900.
